After graduating from Kumamoto High School and Azabu Veterinary University (present Azabu University), he interned at the University of California, Davis hospital ER to learn emergency treatment and intensive care.

Veterinarian is his calling! |
"The miraculous veterinarian who can understand dogs' words"
Director Nagoshi does not only love animals but also can talk with them and understand their words more than 500.
He likes to talk with pets very much. When seeing the pets, he earnestly speak to them to understand what they want to do.
He can understand their requests and feelings such as "painful," "lonely," "scared" and "bored" by looking their eyes.
He uses any treatment to help sick or injured pets such as a dog with a caesarean section and its baby, a kitten injured in a traffic accident, a large dog which underwent emergency surgery and a puppy unable to walk and values relationships with them. He uniquely performs even "Oriental Acupuncture."
Various lifesaving equipment is needed to help them, but the basic things are to think how to communicate with pets, to understand what they want and to find immediately how to cure them.
That is his calling and he takes a pride in his profession.
From a TV program interview
Message from the director |
Some veterinary hospitals are reliable and some are otherwise because anyone with a veterinarian's license can establish a practice easily without a license examination and equipment regulations everywhere in Japan in contrast to America.
Medical practice remains completely uncontrolled.
All you have to do is to report a notification with your name and address and items regulated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan to your prefectural livestock hygiene service center without the government approval.
It is said that you do not even have any equipment.
This is a serious problem.
The veterinary jurisprudence regulating such as the above notification is not for animals but for veterinarians.
If the jurisprudence exists for animals, namely pets, a fixed standard for veterinarian techniques and hospital equipment should be required.
However, such the fixed standard is not required at the present time.
I think veterinary associations, especially small animal veterinary associations have responsibility to press for reform on behalf of pets.
My father, a long-time president of the Kumamoto City Veterinarian Association, passed away ten years ago without having fulfilled his ambitions.
I did not follow in his footsteps and join any veterinary associations even once.
Instead, I struggled for pets by myself and made endeavor everyday.
As a result, many owners and their pets come to our hospital from all parts of Japan.
I consider the success of my hospital is a result of my devotion to veterinary medicine.
The devotion may touch ownersユ sympathetic chords.
Promising and hopeful young veterinarians and veterinary students! Remain steadfast in your beliefs.
Think why you wanted to become a veterinarian and never forget it. Believe in your efforts and live for pets everyday with all of your might.
The beliefs and efforts will bring you happiness.
I talked a little big, but I still lack experience.
I shall go on studying to the end of my days.

Kimihiro Nagoshi Director General Hospital Pet Center NAGOSHI

I look forward to hearing from pet owners, veterinarians and animal health technicians.
